My son and I had been browse for house in Berkeley , California , for a few months when we first lay eye on a perfect , tiny , one - report house with a elephantine photo windowpane facing the not - so - utter front yard ( make up solely of concrete with a small scruffy lawn ) . As before long as we moved in , we set to work on the front landscape , removing all of the concrete . We soon had a blank slate — and a big picture windowpane gazing right onto the street .
The billet scream for a great splurge , so we instal a declamatory ‘ Clara ’ blue-blooded hesper laurel wreath between the house and the street . It was a splurge not only because of the cost of this fairly rare tree but also because of the price of the induction , which take heavy equipment and half a daylight of piece of work . When it was done , however , and before we did any extra work , we had a garden ! The tree provided a “ cap ” and at once created privacy from the street and the neighbor ’s windows . We adore the unequaled low-spirited - silvery foliation , specially when it rustles in the wind . Our splurge tree is growing quickly , but it will be the perfect plate for the little garden as everything grows up around it .
