We can almost savor the first pizza from our Natalie Wood - fired brick pizza oven right now ! Well , almost .
Pouring the slab . The pizza pie oven slab in on the upper rightfield . We pour everything at once to make having a truck worthwhile
As we head into weekend # 5 of the construction process , this project by far has been our most labor intensive DIY crusade ever . But it has also been incredibly fun and rewarding .

specially as we see the brick pizza oven rise ever so easy from the terra firma . See : Creating and Inexpensive Outdoor Pizza Oven
The one affair we have found out throughout this cognitive operation is that it simply accept metre . Time to make and build a foundation . clip to build the concrete wall . Time to create and pour the oven slab . And so on and so on .
It has actually been one incredible lesson in study the art of both patience and persistence !

The concrete wall base of the brick pizza oven
Here is the advancement so far …
The Brick Pizza Oven Construction Process
The undertaking take up with the pouring of an 8″ buddy-buddy concrete footer foundation . We decide to construct an outside kitchen and grill space in the same arena , so we formed both at the same time . Using a few pieces of 2″ x 8″ timber , we leveled in a form to create a 46″ x 60″ base . We also dug 10″ wide mess on each corner of the stamp pad to a depth of 30″. This will keep the pad from ever shifting through the freeze and thawing of winter .

Next , we tot up a little gravel to the base , old metal fence and rebar , and then poured the concrete . The pad was complete , and we were quick for weekend # 2 – construct the block walls .

We create the walls with 8″ x 16″ cementum block , mortaring together each joint as we croak . It was our first attempt ever at laying block . For a mates of rookie , once we capture the knack of the process , it was actually fun . It rent 44 blocks in all to fill in the entire framing .
When we finished , the oven base was 27″ marvellous , accomplished with a shopping center compartment to hold up wood for the blast . Next up , was concrete oven base slab for the brick pizza oven !
We created the form mightily on top of the auction block walls with some old plywood and 2″ x 6″ timber . Next , we ready about mixing bag after base of high strength concrete to fill the form . I am pretty sure neither of us could move for about two days after that weekend .

Pouring the top. We added mesh and rebar to help hold the slab top
Note to self – rent a small social next time ! Mary will never again believe me when I utilise the terminal figure “ it really wo n’t be that defective to just do it ourselves by helping hand ” !

And that lead us to this weekend ’s efforts . Mortaring stone to cross the base walls , and mortaring flack brick to make the pizza pie oven cooking surface .

For the outside of the oven level , we used old brick to match the patio . They will not receive any heat , so we can at least use them for the bound that shows . Today , we will lay in the 4 x 8″ fervour brick to the heart to form the cooking airfoil .
To hide the walls of the brick oven cornerstone , we are using drystack stone . It is made from cement and at $ 4 a square substructure , it was an cheap alternative to real stone . It also goes up really easy with mortar , another bountiful advantage .
The project as it appear last night after yesterday ’s procession .

The project as it looked last night after yesterday’s progress.
Next weekend , we will produce the arch and start to build the actual oven ! It should take us about a total of 145 fire brick to discharge the dome . Once that is complete , all that is left is to cut across the preparation dome with two column inch of isolate concrete . Then – its time to build the first fire .
Hopefully , in about 3 weeks , we can fetch you our final situation – with perhaps a painting of our first pizza pie !
