Six on Saturday. February Cheer.

February bring bird Sung , lighter afternoons and a lightening of the spirits because thing are excite in the garden . But I did n’t have a bun in the oven it to bring me this poor cozen peacock butterfly stroke who has n’t got a very firm grasp of the calendar and is doom to die a chilly death . I imagine he take to the woods from the shed when I went to get my tools . He count a second baste , perhaps he has been hurtle himself at the window to attempt to get out .

My pet wintertime bloom are getting into their stride . I am always delighted to see the wintertime aconites , Eranthis hyemalislike piffling blobs of sunlight growing out of fresh green choker all over the garden . If they are happy they will seed around into yellowed carpet but they wo n’t thrive in teetotal gardens . They are woodlanders and like mottled shade and soil that does n’t dry out out . When the Sunday shines they open up and look like buttercup . They in reality go to the buttercup house .

February is snowdrop meter and galanthophiles like me get very boring . Many masses say that snowdrops all front the same and in fact I suppose this is true to a sure extent and we all have difficulty identifying many of them when we lose recording label . ButGalanthus‘Trumps ’ is very typical with the green grading on the verboten petal . It is such a beauty , I eff everything about it apart from its unfortunate name . There are several snowdrops with a yellow ovary and yellow marking on their petals . Galanthus‘Spindlestone Surprise ’ is a very vigorous one in my garden . I have tidy sum of snowdrop blooming at the moment but we ’ll leave it at these two today .

In the greenhouse I have pots of bulbs to give me an early show . The small hoop petticoatNarcissus bulbocodium‘Mary Poppins ’ is very dependable . As the flowers go over more buds assailable to make a long- endure display . I have shown this lovely narcissus before on this web log . When she is in bud I wreak her to the indoor garden so I can relish her niggling lily-white trumpets .

Also in the conservatory the Solandra maximabuds I showed a twain of calendar week ago have fulfilled their hope and now that they have gone over another bud has opened . The yellow peak get a richer , deeper coloring material as they maturate and they have beautiful wine - coloured marking inside . They are like pyxie jacket for giant pyxie because as they launch the out flower petal fold up back and have frilly edges .

I get so aroused about these stunning bloom that I am always drag out mass in to stare at them , friends , go neighbours , the plumber , anyone who comes near my house . A livery man was only spare because the Pianist was give me a funny smell . But really they are arresting and slightly fragrant too , they are pollinate by bats in their native home ground .

I should have started this post with my beautifulSolandra maxima or made it the grand conclusion but as it is Valentine ’s Day next week I will finish with a little romance . My little lilac tommies orCrocus tommasinianusare ordinarily the first into bloom but this yr they have been beaten by the pretty yellowCrocus chrysanthus‘Romance ’ . I like species crocus so much more than the big juicy shiny Dutch ones and they are always earlier into flower . So this niggling ‘ love story ’ is my Valentine ’s Day treat .

February days bring plenty of delicate blooms in the UK so do moderate outSix on Saturdayhosted by Jim atGarden Ruminationsand see what everyone else is delight here and afield ..
