They can be easily produce outdoors and in container , and they earned the name " Houseleeks " from their leaning to root on the roofs of house . After the mother plant life flowers , it will of course die , but the plant has likely produced many starting time that will continue to produce by this clock time . These are excellent for dusty windows . Sempervivum earned its popular name , " Hen and Chicks , " from their growth habit . The mother plant , or hen , sends off legion counterbalance , clustering around her infrastructure like chicks . These offsets can be well repotted , or the plant can be leave alone to form a clumping mat .

Repot as needed , rather during the warm time of year . To repot a succulent , ensure the soil is dry before repotting , then lightly remove the hatful . Knock away the old territory from the roots , removing any decayed or bushed roots . deal any cut of meat with a fungicide . set the plant in its new pot and backfill it with pot dirt , spread the base out as you repot . give the plant dry for a calendar week or so , then lead off to water softly to reduce the risk of beginning decomposition .
