Plant This
‘Elegantissima’ variegated boxwood(Buxus sempervirens‘Elegantissima’)
USDA Hardiness Zones:6 to 8
sizing : Up to 4 metrical unit magniloquent and wide-eyed
Conditions : Full sun to partial spook ; prolific , well - drain ground

This stalwart vary boxwood makes a shimmering star in the shady corner of any southern garden , where a place of smart variegation is apprise in the thick ocean of shiny , blue green that is our common summertime menu . I have grown‘Elegantissima’for many years as a trained crop box in a parterre , orhaveleft it to develop naturallyand unrefined in money box under big elms . Either way , it ’s cheerful and undemanding .
With That:
White Japanese roof iris(Iris tectorum‘Alba’)
Zones:5 to 9
Size:10 to 18 in marvellous , spreading up to 6 feet
precondition : Full sun to light shade ; well - drained soil

One of my favorite go - to plants is the lovely white-hot Japanese roof iris . With its clopping masses ofarching , glossy green blade and its pollyannaish clump of flowers , this iris get a designer ’s job slow . I wish to practice it in masses under trees , embrace slopes , or snuggle up to Boulder . Its bold leaf texture and much evergreen nature makes this a year - round flora , which shoulders itself perfectly against the box . In the South , anticipate flower anytime in recent fountain , just after the dogwood rosiness .
‘Evergold’ sedge(Carex oshimensis‘Evergold’)
Zones:6 to 9
Size : Up to 1 foot tall and 20 inches wide
Conditions : fond shade ; moist , fertile , well - run out soil

I know that somewhere in the man , this sedge must rise beautifully in full Lord’s Day and take on the goldness of its name . But not here . In the South , ‘ Evergold’sedge wants shade , and its diversification is decidedly creamy white — which is a beneficial thing for this plant combining because the lovely stripes are almost exactly the same colors as those of the variegated boxwood .
False Solomon’s seal(Smilacina racemosa)
Zones:4 to 9
Size : Up to 3 foot tall and 2 foot wide
condition : fond to full shade ; moist , fertile , well - drained soil

This lush , woodland native is adaptable to almost any southerly garden , where its clumps of arching , glossy immature foliage ; panicle of frothy white flower ; and showy red autumnal Chuck Berry make it a harbinger of any time of year . In our simple compounding , I imaginefalse Solomon ’s sealhugging up against the variegated Turkish boxwood and curve up and out over the roof iris and sedge , bringing a resonance to the whole scene .
