Last week I was invited to attend theBall Horticulturedisplay gardens at the California Spring Trials . The California Spring Trials can best be name as Fashion Week for industrial plant : agriculturalist put on elaborate displays to submit what ’s raw and notable in their upcoming plant lines . Ball launch the upcoming 2017 innovations in their many brands includingBurpeeandWave .
I was welcomed at the Ball Spring Trials by the California sunlight and beautiful arbour filled with heyday . After a quick preference and a chance to play the squad , we started the tour of the industrial plant .
At Burpee Seeds I met a genuinely passionate nurseryman and foodie who vibrated with excitation over the three new veggie seed lines and some of the amazing edibles . true , after I heard about them I was resonate too ! Amazing plants that figure out a host of problems for the home vegetable gardener , vegetables created specifically for small spaces AND high yields , plus some toothsome comestible design with the creative foodie in creative thinker . I found so many young varieties that I want to share , so I ’ll save more in a follow up post all about what ’s new for Burpee for 2017 .

Next , we visit some of the decorative plants from the BallIngenuity strain , first - to - market and high - need plants from independent suppliers around the world .
Look for Jurassic Rex Begonias , vivacious Celosia “ Twisted Orange ” , and Sweet Kiss strawberry , an ever - bearing strawberry that yield large , dark - violent yield from June until Robert Lee Frost . Sweet Kiss has reportedly gain ground blind taste perception tests for smack , make it an even sweeter industrial plant choice !
A stop at the Cyclamen display gave me some more thought on how to use Cyclamen in hang baskets and I learned the right way to care for them . Tip : they love air ! So to keep them blooming , off all of the spent stem , not just the blooms . Keeping the soil line nice and not bad is the best way to keep these airwave - loving beauties happy .

Next there was a pourboire toe through the petunias from Selecta , a global horticultural company have by the Klemm syndicate in Stuttgart , Germany , that brings excellent genetics of vegetatively propagated annual to the North American grocery . While I ’ve never been overly activated about honest-to-goodness - fashioned petunias , these Night Sky Petunia ’s speckle blooms stole the show . The vividness change base on temperature and , like fingerprint , no two blooms are alike . blistering twenty-four hours and nerveless nights will ferment the efflorescence white ; while a gamy day and nighttime temperature will turn them purpleness . From rouge - splash to star - shaped , these petunias have quite the following , just Google them and see !
In my garden I ’m always on the hunt for some great perennial and there were many to be witness like the variegate Heliopsis helianthoides “ Sunstruck ” , healthy Lavance Deep Purple English Lavender , and UpTick serial publication of Coreopsis , which boasts bigger flowers that blossom longer .
I loved the Rhythmix Perennial Plant combining , instant garden for those who are just getting started . perennial are combined in containers to befit dissimilar gardening tastes . With names like Boogie Blues , Fiery Foxtrot , and Cheery Charleston , you’re able to see that these containers are a full of rhythm !

Those who love advert basket would have been blown away at the profuse , cascade Cool Wave Pansies and Wave Petunias . There was a long list of innovations for these beauties , which can well be project over on theWave Family website . If you are look for well-tried and true annual for mountains ( or waterfalls ) of color , the Wave brand is the one you should be looking for in stores . These guys really have intercourse their stuff !
The displays at the Ball Spring Trials were so well done and deserving a quotation . From Burpee ’s Small Garden and Foodie display to living wall , sensational containers , and alone planting , there was a banquet for the eyes .
The little point like paint the standstill under a begonia the same color as the blooms and the elaborate decorative backdrops made it a very enjoyable show to assist . I’m grateful to the Ball Horticulture team for invite me to California to tour the Ball Spring Trials and I ca n’t await to get some of those dainty for my home garden !
