Blooms and foliage of the season
Mary Spencer is sharing her garden with us today .
I have lived in Westminster , Maryland , for 22 geezerhood and have been garden the intact time . My garden has been a lifeline for me this year . I have a wad ofshade .
Nothing says outflow likepansiesand violas ( Viola×wittrockiana , cool - time of year one-year ) . With an enormous color range , complex bloom patterns , and a upbeat tolerance of inhuman weather , they are a pleasure in any garden !

A immense ‘ Sun King ’ aralia ( Araliacordata‘Sun King ’ , Zones 3–9 ) takes center stage with glow sensationalistic - greenish foliage . The black honey oil of thehostasaround it really set off the bright color of the leaves .
A beautiful scene of bounce with adogwoodin bloom above azalea . The dogwood looks to be one of the intercrossed varieties , perhapsCornus‘Aurora ’ ( zone 5–9 ) , that boast first-class disease and pest resistance along with over - the - top peak displays like you see here .
I have sex the insidious people of colour combination in this pot . Sweet potato vine ( Ipomoeabatatas , Zones 10–11 or as an yearly ) , flame nettle ( Solenostemonscutellarioides , Zone 11 or as an one-year ) , and a heuchera ( Heucherahybrid , Zones 5–9 ) all fetch foliation in elusive shades of cop and brown , making a dandy backdrop for the white New Guinea impatiens ( Impatienshawkeri , Zones 10–11 or as an one-year ) .

In this bottom , an bound of colorful faggot glows against a backdrop ofvariegatedfoliage .
Looking through the flower branches of a doublefile viburnum ( Viburnumplicatum , Zones 4–8 ) , we can see a Nipponese maple ( Acerpalmatum , Zones 5–9 ) and more of the timberland garden behind . I love views like this in a garden , where the scene beyond are partially obscured , give a sense of surprisal and expectancy to the whole view .
