Blooms of spring and summer

Today we ’re visiting with Marty Whalen .

I be in the countryside of northerly Minnesota on 8 acres of beautiful dirt that was once cattle pasture . Not a rock in mountain . I raise volaille , so I use a luck ofcompostedbedding to keep thesoil healthy . This garden was started in 1998 .

Pink peak ofPrimuladenticulata(drumstick primrose , Zones 2–7 ) surround the soft yellow ofErythronium(Zones 4–9 ) in natural spring .

A gorgeous peony ( Paeoniahybrid , Zones 3–8 ) is in full flush in front of apond . It looks like it might be the classic potpourri ‘ Bowl of Beauty ’ .

This ruffledSiberian iris(Irishybrid , Zones 3–8 ) is stunning . Siberian irises are durable , easy - to - grow plants , and newer crossbreed have gravid , more ruffled , and more diversely colored blooms than the former standards .

Native to dry spots over pretty much all of eastern North America , prickly pear cactus ( Opuntiahumifusa , Zones 4–9 ) look nerveless all yr but really shows off when it blooms in early summer .

Asiatic lilies ( Liliumhybrids , Zones 4–9 ) are a group of hybrids that have the wide color image of the genus and are generally easy to turn .

Jackman clematis ( Clematis‘Jackmanii ’ , zone 4–8 ) is a Greco-Roman old hybrid , first put in in the mid-1800s , and it is easy to see why it remain democratic today . Few flora can match that incredible flower video display .

More Asiatic lilies , in every tint ofred , are emphasize with some whites in the back . One lily is beautiful , but a mass of them like this is just unbelievable .
