Create privacy in an urban garden using thoughtful design
The heart of my urban garden is completely secluded from looker-on , which was one of the main finish when constructing it . Most people do n’t acknowledge that it ’s even there until they are invited in . suddenly of installing a tall , imposing fence , you may accomplish this kind of sieve through a compounding of structure and plant location .

3 Ways to Create Privacy Without a Fence
1. Arbors Draped in Vines Can Create a Nearly Impenetrable Screen
An arbor toward the middle of the garden is connected by a header beam to the side of the firm ( see above ) . This social organisation provides the great source of concealment in my garden . It ’s drape in thick vines that are allowed to enlace and for the most part run furious .
2. Trees and Shrubs Placed in Strategic Sight Lines Create the Next Level of Shielding
The front of the garden summercater some heavy trees and shrubs such as beautybush ( Kolkwitzia amabilis , Zones 4–8 ) and hydrangeas ( Hydrangeaspp . and cvs . , Zones 3–9 ) that , when in folio , ensure the street and the neighbors are not seeable from the heart of the garden . But even during wintertime , evergreens such as Nipponese white pines ( Pinus parviflora , Zones 5–7 ) provide covering .
3. Sometimes, Privacy Is Relative
I pick out not to create a roadblock between my patio with the outdoor couch and my neighbors ’ march windows because the space is so narrow that it feel rude ( see below ) . An inclusive position prevailed , and I decide that I need them to be able to enjoy the garden as I do . However , my back porch is screened off with a compounding of containers , windowpane boxes , andvines to furnish a bit more seclusion .

Evergreens do a great job of creating privacy even in winter.

The author considered adding a screen between the neighbor’s window, seen above, and the comfortable patio, but decided they did not want to wall off the garden to anyone who might enjoy it.
