I ’m having the chance of spending some time in Holland on rosaceous business enterprise . view gardens , visiting rose nurseries judging the International Rose Trials in The Hague – it ’s a foul occupation but someone has to do it .
What has especially struck me is the vast utilisation , and acceptance of roses as bush over here . Not just in common but everywhere .
During down prison term I ’ve been appease with , and visiting , family . My parents are Dutch and immigrate to America justly after the war . Because of this I ’ve been able to spend time walking neighborhoods and modest villages . Everywhere I go I see roses engraft along wayside , outside of any “ formal ” rose area in park and casually mass with other plants in postage stamp front yards .

Wednesday nighttime I assemble up with one of my rose breeder guest , Brad Jalbert from Canada , and he remarked on the very same affair . He had spent four days in Germany with Thomas Proll , who is the roseate breeder for Kordes nursery . Brad was also struck by the causal acceptation of rose and the ebullience for using them simply as garden plants . Kordes had their rose festival over the weekend Brad was there and well over 15,000 nurseryman showed up .
Notice I used the Word of God “ gardeners ” . Not “ rosarians ” or “ arise lovers ” . People who care all aspects of gardening and are enthusiastic about rosiness as flowering shrubs came to Kordes to savour the day , see the raw roses and stop and smack them .
Collectively all these people grow these roses as shrubs in the garden , relish them and do n’t fret over a mo of disease or an insect bite – just as they do n’t on any of the other plant in their garden . Most belike the same way you call back of the non - rosaceous plant in your own garden .

That ’s the samara . They do n’t look upon them as roses – something separate from the rest of the garden to be held to a unlike level of idol than other industrial plant . In fact do n’t think of them any more than you do any other flora .
I sometimes finger in America we finger pressure to have double-dyed rose . If we do n’t we have somehow failed as gardeners . If your azalea , tomatoes , perennial or any other plant has a nibble on a leafage or a bit of fungus we just shrug it off know “ it will get over it ” .
Happy Roseing
