It takes one chicken to come into your life and interchange the direction that you ’ll forever and a day front at volaille . That one raspberry for me was Chickadee , a savage piffling brown hen with eight little chicks in tow . The slight chicken started visiting my K in Kalaheo , Hawaii , in May 2020 during the pandemic . She came into my lifetime during a prison term of uncertainty . I was lately lay off from my job of 13 year with the touristry industry and did n’t know what the time to come held for me .
I remember that Clarence Day clearly . sit around at the kitchen board , I find out little cheeps coming from outside . I went out onto my porch and watch a little brown biddy with eight piddling testis of fluff trailing behind her . I fed them some nutrient , and to my surprise , they ran toward me and the food or else of away from it like some of the neighborhood chickens do .
Watching the momma hen with her baby wench directly take my creative thinker off of my troubles and put a smile on my font . I remember just soaking up the minute , because I thought that would be the first and last time that I ’d ever see them .

To my surprise , the mama hen and her clutch of chick finish by again the next Clarence Shepard Day Jr. , the following day and each day after that . They continue visiting my yard day by day , until one daylight , she decided to move right into my backyard .
By this point , I had named the little brownhen Chickadee . She ’d spend all Clarence Shepard Day Jr. loose - ranging in my backyard and roost in the tree at Nox . curtly after she go in , other savage chickens from the neighborhood joined her .

Liv(e) Aloha
Chickadee was the first volaille to capture my kernel , but she was definitely not the last . Many other awing chickens be .
Liv was a savage rooster that endure at the common near my habitation . I chatter him daily for months and formed a special bond with him . He is by far the favorable rooster I ’ve ever see . Every time he ’d see my car coming through the park entrance , he ’d start running toward me and was always the first to recognise me .
During my visits to the park , Liv would stay by my side . He ’d follow me around or light on my shoulder . He ’d pilot up onto my circle so that I ’d hold him and pet him . He was so affectionate . I spent so much time at the park that I was able to watch Liv transition from a precious little cockerel into a bounteous rooster.photos by Cindi Fontanilla

Mahalo, Kiko!
In May 2021 , I get hold a lone black chick wander around my backyard in the late good afternoon . I waited for a while to see if any hens would show up , but none ever did . Finally , I ended up catching the piffling bird and fetch her indoors for the night .
I cuddle with her and kept her warm with my body heat energy . I got confiscate very quick and decided to name her Kiko .
My initial end was to reunite Kiko with her mamma hen . Three daylight later on , I saw a pitch-dark - and - bloodless hen with eight baby chicks around the same sizing as Kiko . I put Kiko down onto the grass and expected her to run toward them and have a well-chosen little reunification . or else , Kiko just stayed next to me , not prove any interest in the mama hen or the babe chicks . This is when I realize that Kiko had opt me as her mama .

Greetings, Gizmo
When Kiko was 6 hebdomad one-time , my neighbour brought over a lost child dame that was divagate around in her yard . He was a cute little chunk of fluff — calorie-free brown with a dark brown stripes melt down down the plaza of his back . He had the brightest chickenhearted legs . I stop up naming him Gizmo .
I wo n’t pretend that Kiko and Gizmo got along right on aside . Kiko would dog Gizmo around , and it seemed like she want this fledgeling to know that this washerhome and I washermom . Over the first few weeks , Gizmo slow started to win Kiko over . Eventually , Kiko allow him in , and she started to see him as her comrade .
Caring for Kiko and Gizmo was a whole new experience for me . I was used to caring for the savage chickens , by providing them with food and H2O , but it was nothing like caring for baby chicks of my own .
My boyfriend got imply in helping me raise Kiko and Gizmo , and he instantly fell in sexual love with them , too . Our shared love for them strengthen our relationship and brought us nearer together . They have been a blessing in our lives and in our relationship . And to think it all originate because a little brown hen wandered into my yard one afternoon !
