Highlights from Bonnie
Greetings from a North Georgia Zone 7 garden . I ’m Bonnie Plikaytis . After looking through my 2022 garden photo , I selected a few to partake in . Hope you revel them !
Edgeworthiachrysantha(Zones 7–10 ) , usually known as paperbush , blooms from lateFebruaryto earlyAprilbefore its new leaves egress . The creamy whitened - and - yellow fragrant peak are a welcome deal when most of the garden is still dormant .
As wintertime turns to fountain , the garden awakens from its sleep . This tears redbud(Cerciscanadensis‘Traveller ’ , zone 6–9 ) recall the color of the peak of the ‘ Radiance’rhododendrons(Zones 6a–9b ) .

In April the flowers ofRhododendron‘Temple Bells ’ ( zone 5a – 7 ) have the shape of pink bells — hence the name . Variegated sweet flag(Acorusgramineus‘Ogon ’ , Zones 5–10 ) cater a backdrop of a grassy golden river through the garden Boulder .
The mid - April morning light intensifies the color ofSaxifraga× geum‘Dentata ’ and play up its ticklish blooms ( Zones 6–9 ) .
A new addition to the garden in 2021 wasIlliciumfloridanum‘Swamp Hobbit ’ ( Zones 6–9 ) . It is a low - grow , deer resistantevergreen shrubwith lovely red blooms in the springiness . This bush first came to my attention while readingFine Gardeningissue 202 . It can be unmanageable to incur in the baby’s room trade , but I was fortunate to buy it at theAtlanta Botanical Garden‘s 2021 fall sale .

calculate at our garden , it becomes obvious that I am drawn to plants with red idiom . Fine Gardeningissue 193sent me on a hunting for Crimson Fans mukdenia(Mukdeniarossii‘Karasuba ’ , Zones 4–8 ) . It strike a while , so when I found it at a local nursery last year , I instantly bought three plants . It has not disappointed ! The leaves emerge shiny green , then develop stunning red edge that last through summer . In this photo it is paired with tassel fern(Polystichumpolyblepharum , Zones 6–8 ) .
springiness and fall plant sales are wonderful places to find specimen works . This fall at a Master Gardeners exposition I find out a ‘ dwarf ’ dwarf ginkgo(Ginkgobiloba‘Gnome ’ , Zones 4–8 ) . Ginkgo is an ancient deciduousconiferand is sometimes call the maidenhair Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree due to its alone fan - shaped folio that resemble a maidenhair fern frond . The intense gilt - yellow fall foliage colouring material was bedazzle this year .
A marvelous thing about living in a woodland community is the plentiful diverseness of native trees and plants . This photo make in November captures the intense fall color of the Nipponese maples(Acer palmatum , Zones 5–9 ) nestled with a large maple aboriginal to our attribute .

Sometimes nature provides dramatic kindling for the timber . The gorgeous pinkish hue seen in this fall photo only hold up for an instant as the rising Lord’s Day ’s igniter bounced off the clouds on the visible horizon .
In December theRohdea japonica(Zones 6–10 ) an evergreen plant , cervid - resistant , tincture - bonk works , adds a bit of Christmas cheer to the garden with its promising redberries .
