One of our best-loved things to do   every twelvemonth   is try out a few unexampled plants in the garden . Whether it ’s a new variety of an heirloom tomato or a fiery live white pepper , it ’s always fun to see what Modern tasting will grow from the ground .

This was by all odds the year of the tomato trial in our garden – in increase to plant our normal canning supply of Roma , Amish Paste and San Marzano tomatoes – we trialed 10 new heirloom varieties   to see what new flavors we might descend up with .

Winners From The Garden Trials

Black Seaman Tomato – This heirloom tomato plant has been a huge hit with both of us – and will unquestionably find its way back into our garden plan next class ! The fruits ripen to a dark reddish / black color , taking on a crimson

The taste is simply divine ! It is easy to see why this tomato wins a batch of blue laurel wreath at county fairs for perceptiveness .

They are prefect for fade ,   They are also the perfect Lycopersicon esculentum of pick for a little olive oil and mozzarella cheese appetiser .

Dakota Black Popcorn – This is a new variety of Zea mays everta we grew this yr , and we can not wait until it is clip to break up and harvest ! The stalks have arise well in our raised row , shooting up to nearly 8′ high – with each shuck having 2 to 4 full ear of cherry / black popcorn beginning to ripen .

Not only is it suppose to be an splendid Zea mays everta , but the ears will be perfect to expend for all kinds of free fall decorations !

Tiger Blush Tomato – This is one incredible tomato !   The Tiger Blush is an oblong style cherry tomato that ripens to a beautiful orange with soupcon of pinkish stripes down the sides .

The flavor is a pure sweetness , with a hint of an almost peach - comparable taste .   The plant is a laborious producer of fruit , and is   perfect for putting in salads and fresh eating if they can plainly make it out of the garden before being take in directly from the vine !

Green Gage Yellow Tomato – This heirloom yellow love apple variety has source that go all the way back to England in the 1870 ’s , and was considered to be a “ cottage garden ” tomato plant . The works was one of our first tomatoes to ripen in the garden , and has been acquire heavy ever since .

The Green Gage yield   is   a mo large than a traditional cherry tree Lycopersicon esculentum , measuring about 1 1/2″ in diameter when ripe . They are perfect for salad , sandwiches – or plainly corrode straight from the vine !
